Solomon Quaynor

Solomon Quaynor is the Vice President for Private Sector, Infrastructure & Industrialization at the African Development Bank (AfDB). He joined AfDB in May 2020. He has over 25 years’ experience in development finance and investment banking.

From 2018-2020 after Mr. Quaynor left IFC to join the private sector, he provided specialized advisory services in emerging markets as: Senior Advisor to Rothschild Global Advisory for Africa (excluding SA); Senior Advisor to IFU (Danish DFI) for sub-Saharan Africa; Investment Committee member and Senior Advisor to a $350 million African PE Fund; Senior Advisor to an African infrastructure fund; and, served on the boards of InfraCredit Nigeria and Verdant Ventures.

Mr. Quaynor previously worked at IFC in various capacities for several years and there he became an emerging markets specialist investor with experience developing business and investing across financial institutions including banks & NBFIs, Telecoms Media & Technology, Infrastructure including Energy, Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services. He has experience supporting senior executives and board leadership of corporates in strategy development, key government/regulatory engagement and private sector partnership development, and often served as trusted advisor to the C-Suite with companies across multiple sectors in Africa.

Before IFC, Mr. Quaynor worked in the US in investment banking on Wall Street, providing corporate finance advisory services to large and medium corporates.  He worked for Merrill Lynch and Bear Stearns, respectively, in New York City as an Associate and Vice President in the generalist and media & communications groups. Before business school, Mr. Quaynor was a college professor at the Atlanta University Center in Math and Engineering.

Mr. Quaynor is a graduate of the J L Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.  He also holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of  Technology, as well as a BS in Applied Physics from Atlanta University Center.

Yemi Keri is the CEO Heckerbella Limited and Co-Founder of Rising Tide Africa, a women’s movement initiated with a vision to increase women’s participation in angel investing as an asset class and promote education, cross-border investing, and investor-mentoring across Africa.
She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Lagos Angel Network and serves on the Board of Africa Business Angel Network (ABAN) as well as the Investment Committee of Acumen Resilient Agriculture Fund (ARAF), managed by Acumen Capital Partners.

She is a mentor to various digital and technology-enabled start-ups. Yemi is an Expert in Residence (EIR) at the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) and a Facilitator on Corporate Governance and Digital Technology & Trends at the Pan- Atlantic University, Lagos.

She was honoured as Nigeria’s most outstanding Public Sector CIO at the ICT Centenary Awards in 2014.

 

Conrad Kraft

Sheila Okiro

Sheila is a financial services professional with more than 20 years of experience in the African financial sector. Her areas of expertise include digital financial services, transactional banking, SME banking and corporate banking. She is currently a Chief Investment Officer in the Financial Intermediation and Inclusion Division at the African Development Bank, based in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Among Sheila’s key functions, is coordination of the Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI). ADFI, a partnership between the AfDB and several donors, seeks to mainstream digital services in the Bank’s operations to foster financial inclusion that is equitable and sustainable.

A career banker, Sheila has worked with several reputable commercial banks in Kenya including Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Standard Chartered Bank and Commercial Bank of Africa (NCBA Bank). In this time, she held key roles as a Senior Corporate Banking Manager and Head of EChannels. Sheila has also worked in the digital financial services sector, helping to build capacity and knowledge in digital financial services amongst banks, fintechs and regulators.

Sheila earned an executive MBA from Strathmore Business School in Kenya and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Evita Grant

Mariame is currently the President of a payments and digital assets fintech firm, Qenta Inc., headquartered in Houston Texas. Prior to this she was the President & CEO for six (6) years at First Global Bank in Jamaica where she led the Bank’s successful transformation and strategic pursuit of Financial Inclusion.

Mariame also spent almost two decades investing in and helping Caribbean businesses to transform; and advising US Fortune 500 company CEOs and their teams on growth strategy and implementation at Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company.
Mariame serves on several Boards in the energy and telecom sectors, and is a co-Founder and Director of TEACH Caribbean, an educational NGO she co-founded to improve access to quality education for rural high school students.

Mariame holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from MIT, an MBA from Harvard Business School and a M.Phil in Economics from Oxford University where she attended as the 1998 Jamaica Rhodes Scholar.

Dr. Wilson T. Banda

Dr. Wilson T Banda is an accomplished economist with over 35 years of progressive work experience locally, regionally and globally. On July 8, 2020, he was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi and accordingly assumed the role of Registrar of Financial Institutions according to the laws of Malawi. He has pioneered financial sector legal reviews and reforms in Malawi, critical for the financial integrity, development of stable and sound financial system and digital-led financial inclusion.

Before becoming Governor, he worked for the Reserve Bank from 1979 to 2010, progressed through the ranks to become General Manager, where he was a voting member of the Monetary Policy Committee and advised the Governor on monetary and financial policies. He presided over several projects and committees, including the Bank’s Asset and Liability Committee and the National Payments Steering Committee. Prior, Dr Banda served as Director of Research and Statistics and Director of Financial Market Operations, overseeing monetary policy implementation. He was instrumental in the preparation of Malawi’s National Accounts and Balance of Payments estimates. He joined the World Bank in 2010 as an Advisor to the Executive Director, Africa Group 1 Constituency, and later became Senior Advisor to the Executive Director from 2012 to October 2017.

Dr Banda holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom; a Master of Public Administration in International Trade and Finance from Harvard University, USA; a Master of Philosophy in Monetary Economics, from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, United Kingdom; and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics from the University of Malawi. He is an ardent researcher, with numerous publications around central banking, public policy and regional integration and financial arrangements. He is a trustee and founding member of the Economics Association of Malawi and member to the board of the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Southern Africa.

 

Johannes !Gawaxab
